50 Years Of European Unity (Sort Of)

EUROPA - 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome is an official site set up by the European Union to celebrate this landmark in the life of what was originally the European Economic Community. Like everything else to do with the EU, it is vast, overcomplicated and self-satisfied, but interesting nonetheless. Do not expect an objective assessment of the European project; this is a site by true believers intended to spread the good word.

Consumers Of The World Unite

You have nothing to lose but your sweatshop underpants.

I'm very much up for people getting together to make things better, and there might be a few stories in it as well. Take a look at Consumers International: the global voice for consumers. The lead story this week is about unethical drug promotion, of which there is a lot. Ask any honest doctor.

Best Free Reference Sites

The Reference and User Services Association, which is an organisation of US librarians, has produced its Best Free Reference Web Sites Combined Index. It includes a lot of old friends, but some new things to consider. Under each recommendation is a link to the association's review of the page. Some of these are extremely old, however, and several of the sites in the recommended list no longer exist.
