Olympic Gold
If you are writing anything about the Olympics, you could do worse than consult the LII Theme Collection: The Olympic Games, an excellent catalogue of relevant Internet links.
News That Comes To You
One day I will get round to writing a page that explains how RSS technology can work for journalists. Unfortunately, it is quite complicated.
In the meantime, the Online Journalism Review has done an excellent job with this piece: News That Comes to You.
FindArticles made better
I've mentioned FindArticles before: it's a collection of 2.5 million articles from 500 publications, mostly American. Anyway, it has just become more useful with an Advanced Search page that lets you specify a date range and specific publications to search. Give it a try: it's free.
UK Government portal
The Government's main Internet portal has been redesigned again, complete with a new name and URL. Now you need to go to Directgov. The old open.gov.uk site now redirects to the new site, which comes in a particularly virulent shade of orange.
Newsreel clips galore
It's hard to imagine a precise journalistic purpose for this site, but it's enjoyable anyway. MovieTone Portraits carries a selection of short clips from the 20th century heyday of British Movietone News. All are silent, which is frustrating, but it is quite handy to be able to see bits of newsreel about people, places and phenomena from as long ago as 1900. The British looked different then, didn't they?
