Freelance victory
There's been a settlement in the long-running Tasini v New York Times case in the US, whereby a group of freelance writers sued various publishers and database operators for placing their articles online without asking permission or paying. The sum of money involved is an astonishing $18m.
The same thing happened to many of us over here – myself included – but we tended to shrug our shoulders and say "What do you expect?" Silly us. Details from the National Writers Union of the US.
